A Surprise Backyard Demo and Remodel for Justin Hartley’s Friend in Season 2 of Celebrity IOU

The first season of Celebrity IOU starred the Scott Brothers as they helped A-listers surprise valuable people in their lives with home renovation tasks. Season 2 kicks off with Justin Hartley startling his long-time buddy Mat by using an excavator to demolish his pool fence while Mat watched television! After moving from apartment to apartment for the last seven years, Mat could purchase a home with his wife and two children. Drew, Jonathan, and Justin collaborated to turn the entire yard into a secret outdoor paradise giving back to his dear friend by giving him something that he knew would genuinely help his family. "It's the least I can do," says Justin, who teamed up with Drew and Jonathan to assist with the transformation of the yard.
The backyard was in lousy shape and empty, with the pool being unusable, cracked, and dry. The patio was hazardous due to uneven and weather-beaten concrete slabs, while the vegetation throughout the yard had either vanished or died. The pool walls were crumbling, and the California sun had worn away the property's surface to the point of exposing rebar. Everything had to be rebuilt. Drew and Jonathan wanted a clean slate on which to create, so they started demoing and leveling out the backyard.
The new outdoor kitchen, crafted by the design team at Summerset Superstore, employed a modern custom two-tone island with beautiful white porcelain countertops, waterfall ends, and an attached bar for entertaining. The island's dark face complements the new roof and fence for a unified appearance. Provided by Summerset Superstore, the island features an Alturi 36" built-in grill, an elegant powerhouse of high-performance grills.
After shopping through one of the Summerset Superstore showrooms, the Property Brothers extended the inside living area to the outdoors with a modern outdoor kitchen, including a stainless steel fridge, combination cabinets, and a one-of-a-kind warming drawer. One of Justin's personal touches was a pizza oven since pizza night is a weekly event for Mat's family.
Outside the master bedroom, the grass was discolored and dying, so "Justin had a vision of creating a cozy place for Mat and his wife to relax after the kids are in bed." They built a charming hideaway for the newlyweds that may be utilized as an entertaining space with a pebble patio, a unique fire pit, and two comfy love seats.
Every element of this backyard was transformed from start to finish into a beautiful work of art that Mat and his family can enjoy. We are overjoyed that Jonathan and Drew allowed us to be a part of assisting this family in realizing their lifelong ambition.
